An online shop: getting through an on-site tax audit

An on-site audit arrived in the second year of the shop. It closed with zero additional charges.

What happened

A consumer electronics shop with a turnover above a hundred million som a year received an order for a full on-site tax audit. What drew the attention of the inspectors was input VAT on imported supplies and the settlements with courier services.

What we did

Our lead auditor attended every meeting with the inspectors in person and made sure the questions were minuted. In advance we put the customs declaration registers in order, matched the serial numbers of imported devices against the handover acts with the couriers, and removed any suspicion that the transactions were fictitious.

How it ended

The audit report was closed without a single additional charge or fine. The supply chain was shown to be clean and every deduction claimed was upheld.
